The Lukas Elementary PTA is honored to present the Mary J. Hammetter Scholarship to a former Lukas student who demonstrates all qualities of a Skywalker, qualities Mary herself radiated. Mary, a former parent and paraprofessional, dedicated her time and energy to Lukas Elementary. She was known for her kind spirit and her ability to persevere during the toughest of times and challenges.

Qualifications:
Scholarship is open to students attending community college, 2-year or 4-year universities or colleges, or trade or vocational school in the upcoming fall. Funds will be send directly to the applicant's school of choice.
Award is a one-time payment of $1,000.00
Non-Academic: this scholarship is not based on G.P.A. or extracurricular activity. Applicants do not need to submit grades.
Applicants must have attended Lukas at some point in the past
Applicants must be graduating from a Jefferson County High School.
The applicant selected must be willing to speak at Lukas's 5th Grade Graduation Ceremony held in May.

Describe a time that you were faced with a challenge or obstacle. How did you persevere through the challenge? What did you learn? How will this serve you in your future?

Applicants should answer the prompt in 750 words or less. Essays will be scored accordingly:
Essay is on topic
Clear description of challenge/obstacle
Clear and concise explanation of how they persevered to overcome stated challenge/obstacle
Addresses how the experience will serve them in the future
