There will be a ribbon cutting for the new playground on Friday, September 7th at 4:15pm. THANK YOU, Lukas community, for helping to make this project happen!
After nearly 30 years, the wear and tear have begun to take their toll on the Lukas Elementary playground equipment. In addition to safety hazards, the playground fails to promote the type of creative and productive play we would hope to offer our students.
Lukas PTA, in partnership with JeffCo School District and the City of Westminster, partnered to apply for a $100k Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) Grant. While Lukas was ultimately not selected as a winner, the process uncovered several issues with the playground surrounding areas that needed immediate attention. The flooring of the playground, as well as the railroad ties on the perimeter are in need of serious updates and replacements to be brought up to code. While we received great news that JeffCo School District will be providing the school with basic playground equipment, there is a large cost associated with bringing the area to code. It was this information that led to the decision of continuing to raise money during Laps for Lukas to benefit the playground project. Our goal as a PTA and community is $75k to help complete the project. We love our school and want the surrounding community to take as much pride in our school as we do. Groundbreaking began May 2018, just in time for Lukas Elementary's 30th Anniversary Year.
